I can't believe this letter that says you died
I think I'm gonna go back the house in North Carolina
And lay in the back yard
Get drunk and let the leaves just bury me, bury me
I can't smile
I don't know what's happened to me
I can't smile

I have this certain fascination with the death of Mirai Piccolo. It's one of the most emotionally charged moments we never see in the entire length of the cannon. We all know it's what sent the kid SSJ, there's no debating it even if it wasn't said in quite so many words. The whole Mirai world is a maelstrom of so many amazing stories. But this... this latches on to me and won't let go.
This could read whatever way you like, but the age of the Gohan sets this mostly in the universe of my in progress fic, CDR (CruelestDreamReality). The musical inspiration runs all over from the stuff I've got in that playlist- Jeff Buckley, Billy Joel, STP, The Offspring, Foreigner and the Verve Pipe, all over the place. The song I picked out ultimately for the title is a really painfully striking piece from Everclear. That's what the snatch of lyrics at the top is from.
This'll be my last update for a while kids. I have a lot of shit that still needs doing before I go home.
Pen, pencil, touches of marker. Original measures maybe 17x12. The kids here belong to Toriyama, god bless his soul. I just like to borrow them every once in a while.
EDIT- I found out about a large-scale scanner in the graphic design department that could take the piece- It's so pretty now! I liked the blue on the photo however, so I dropped that in on photoshop- the quality is almost perfect now.
Oh man. This picture really brought tears to my eyes. You have drawn this in such a powerful way...the pain in Gohan's face, the limp way that Piccolo is hanging there...just terribly wonderful. I'm truly touched.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
